Wildlife Wednesdays: Wildlife and Wildfire
In select parts of the state, biologists and foresters work together to conduct prescribed fires to enhance wildlife habitat. The Delta Junction Bison Range is the site of recent prescribed fires and mechanical treatments to stimulate shrub species for moose forage and grouse habitat, as well as grass species that entice bison onto state lands. Join Sue Rodman as she discusses studies that support these management techniques, along with lessons learned from the recent treatments that will help managers improve their approach in the future. Location: Matanuska Experiment Farm 1509 S. Georgeson Drive, Palmer.
December 4, 7 pm – 8 pm
Wildlife Wednesdays: Reindeer
Reindeer, caribou, or confused? Join Kassie Colson as she discusses the wild caribou’s domestic counterpart, the reindeer, and their history in the state. From missionaries to the gold rush to today, reindeer have played an important role, and continue to have their impacts on wildlife even today. Location: Matanuska Experiment Farm 1509 S. Georgeson Drive, Palmer.
