HOMER SPIT OPENS TO SNAGGING SILVERS

The Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon will be open to snagging noon, Wednesday, September 14 through the end of the year

In order to help anglers harvest the rest of the hatchery silver salmon, snagging will be permitted in the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon area beginning at 12:01 p.m. (noon), Wednesday, September 14, until 11:59 p.m. (midnight), Saturday, December 31.

The Lagoon area includes the waters from the Homer City Dock (near the entrance to the Homer Boat Harbor) northwest along the east side of the Homer Spit to the department marker approximately 200 yards northwest of the entrance to the Lagoon, and out 300 feet from the shore.

All other regulations pertaining to this fishery remain in effect.  The daily bag and possession limit for silver salmon in this area is six.  Outside the Fishing Lagoon area the silver salmon daily bag and possession limit is three.  A fish counts toward the bag limit of the person originally hooking it.

The Homer High School Advanced Science class will be netting a few silvers under the terms of a special Commissioner’s permit in a small section of the Fishing Lagoon from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, just before the Lagoon opens to snagging.  Please don’t impede the class in conducting their project.

Beginning January 1, 2006, the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon will again be closed to snagging.
