Juneau – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game today announced that king salmon sport fishing regulations in Southeast Alaska, which were liberalized May 3, will end after August 30. Beginning Wednesday, August 31, king salmon regulations will revert to those outlined in the SE King Salmon Management Plan as follows:
- Alaska residents: bag and possession limit of two king salmon 28 inches or greater in length; no annual limit.
- Nonresidents: bag and possession limit of one king salmon 28 inches or greater in length; annual limit of three fish.
These regulations apply in all marine waters of Southeast Alaska open to king salmon fishing, and will be in effect for the remainder of 2005. The nonresident annual limit of three fish will also apply in all freshwaters between Cape Suckling and Cape Fairweather open to king salmon fishing, excluding the Situk River.
The regulations in effect through August, which were more liberal than those specified in the Southeast Alaska King Salmon Management Plan, were intended to provide additional harvest opportunity in the sport fishery in order to harvest the allocation adopted by the Board of Fisheries.
