LIBERALIZED SPORT FISHING REGULATIONS FOR TAKU RIVER KING SALMON TO END JUNE 30, 2005

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is reminding sport anglers in the Juneau area of an upcoming change in local king salmon sport fishing regulations.

On July 1, 2005, king salmon sport fishing regulations in Sections 11-A and 11-B will revert back to the region wide regulations for Southeast Alaska. Th is ese change s will mark the end of the liberalized sport fishing regulations intended to provide greater harvest opportunity for Taku River king salmon in Sections 11-A and 11-B. The liberalized regulations for Taku River king salmon were adopted by the Board of Fisheries for the 2005 season only and were scheduled to be in place from April 25 through June 30.

On July 1, 2005, king salmon sport fishing regulations in Sections 11-A and 11-B will revert back to the region wide regulations for Southeast Alaska.

These changes consist of the following Beginning July 1, king salmon sport fishing regulations in Sections 11-A and 11-B will be as follows:

  • Sport fishing may no longer be conducted with the use of two lines (rods) per angler.
  • The bag and possession limit for king salmon will be:
    • Alaska residents – three king salmon, 28 inches or greater in length
    • Non residents - one king salmon, 28 inches or greater in length.
  • King salmon caught by non residents will now count toward the non resident annual limit of five king salmon.
  • Charter operators and crew members may no longer retain king salmon when client are on board.

These changes do not effect the liberalized sport fishing regulations for hatchery king salmon in the Juneau terminal harvest area.
