VALDEZ PINK SALMON BAG LIMIT RAISED TO 12 PER DAY ON JUNE 30

Because of a strong return, the bag limit for pink salmon Valdez-area salt waters will increase to 12 pink salmon per day and 24 in possession, effective 12:01 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005.

This increase targets pink salmon returning to the Valdez Fisheries Development Association’s Solomon Gulch Hatchery at the head of Port Valdez, and includes the salt waters of Valdez Arm north of a line from Point Freemantle to Rocky Point, but does not include Jack, Sawmill and Galena bays.

Fresh water salmon closures remain in effect.  Snagging is allowed only in the salt waters.

The pink salmon return to the hatchery is well ahead of the anticipated return for this date.  This strong return of pink salmon should provide anglers with a great opportunity to get out and catch some fish. The shoreline adjacent to the Valdez boat harbor and Allison Point are popular places to fish for pink salmon from shore.
