ANCHORAGE’S FIRST EVER KIDS-ONLY FISHERY FOR CAMPBELL CREEK KINGS SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 25 AND JUNE 26

The Alaska Board of Fisheries approved new youth-only fisheries for Southcentral Alaska, including a youth-only fishery for Campbell Creek king salmon to take place Saturday, June 25, and Sunday, June 26.

Only anglers under 16 years old may fish for Campbell Creek king salmon between Dimond Blvd. and the Old Seward Highway between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. each day. An Alaska sport-fishing license is not required, but youth anglers need to record the harvest of king salmon 20” or longer on a free Harvest Record Card available wherever fishing licenses are sold.

The limit for king salmon 20 inches or greater in length is one king salmon per day, with one in possession.  The limit for king salmon less than 20 inches is ten per day and ten in possession. Although adults may not fish for any species of fish in this section of Campbell Creek during the youth-only fishery days and times, it’s a great opportunity to get out with the kids in a beautiful setting and fish for a king salmon.

To kick off this first-ever fishery, the ADF&G Aquatic Mobile Classroom will host free educational activities for kids under 16 at the Taku-Campbell Lake park, off King Street and 76th.

For any questions, contact the Southcentral Region Sport Fish Information Center in Anchorage at (907) 267-2218.
